About the Role
Our client company is looking for an experienced and hands-on Customs Supervisor to join our team in Antwerp, Belgium.
This is a senior operational role for a customs professional with strong practical knowledge of Belgian and EU customs regulations, particularly in relation to Antwerp Port and maritime import operations.
This role will act as a key contact between our company and Belgian Customs authorities, handling customs-related cases, attending customs meetings, and supporting the company in resolving complex customs matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a key contact person for Belgian Customs authorities, particularly in the Antwerp region.
- Represent the company in meetings and discussions with Belgian Customs.
- Handle and follow up on customs inspections, customs controls, disputes, penalties and other customs-related cases.
- Communicate directly with Customs regarding customs declarations, import procedures, customs classification, customs valuation, documentation and compliance matters.
- Investigate customs issues and coordinate with customers, warehouses, transport partners and internal teams to find practical solutions.
- Handle complex and sensitive customs cases, including communicating with Customs to clarify, negotiate and resolve issues when required. Provide practical advice on Belgian and EU customs regulations and procedures.
- Monitor changes in Belgian and EU customs legislation and assess their impact on the company's operations.Ensure that customs processes are handled correctly and in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Develop and improve internal customs procedures, controls and SOPs.
- Support and guide junior customs colleagues when necessary.
Requirements
- At least 3–5 years of relevant customs experience; more senior profiles are highly welcome.
- Strong practical knowledge of Belgian customs legislation and procedures.
- Proven experience dealing directly with Belgian Customs authorities.
- Experience with Antwerp Port and maritime import operations is highly preferred.
- Solid experience handling customs inspections, disputes, penalties and regulatory cases.
- Good understanding of EU customs legislation and import procedures.
- Previous experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, logistics or international trade is preferred.
- Native-level Dutch is strongly preferred, as the role requires direct communication with Belgian Customs authorities and participation in meetings.
- Good command of English. Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and take ownership of customs-related matters.
- Practical and solution-oriented, with the ability to handle customs cases from start to finish.
